The popular fashion designer and global homewares company preview their collection.
Last week in a live stream, Virgil Abloh and Swedish furniture company Ikea unveiled their forthcoming collaboration.
The collection had been teased on Instagram by Virgil and Ikea in 2017, but no developments had been announced until the live stream.
The Ikea collaboration adds to a list of many with the Chicago born designer. In the last year, Virgil has collaboration with Nike, music artist Lil Uzi Vert and perfumery Byredo.
The live stream displayed a showroom, full of prototypes with Virgil’s signature touches, including phrases in speech marks and trainers from Virgil’s sold out trainer collaboration with Nike. Nike x Off-White trainers were showcased in a clear glass cabinet, with light wooden edges.
In addition to a cabinet, there were also rugs with phrases emblazoned in bold print, minimal cushions with signature Off-White branding and a chair with a door stop on the leg.
Virgil has also redesigned the iconic Ikea blue bag, which was also taken as inspiration for Balenciaga’s Arena extra large bag.

The live stream was labelled prototype, so not all of the products on display may make the final collection, which is due to arrive in 2019.
It is likely the collection will sell out in Ikea stores globally. For more teasers, keep a close watch on Virgil and Ikea’s Instagram accounts.
