This is not a call to ditch makeup bag essentials from winter. Some makeup products have a dual ability to prove beneficial through both the cold and warm seasons. However, some products are unable to provide everything our skin and hair needs for the increased sunlight and temperatures that spring and summer bring. Continue reading to see what made the shortlist for seasonal essentials.

This sunscreen has been developed by specialist skincare brand La Roche Posay to ensure sun protection and minimal skin irritation. Specifically, for oily and acne-prone skin, the sunscreen is anti-shine and non greasy. It contains ingredients that will not clog the skin and also contains thermal spring water.

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser SPF20, £34, johnlewis.com

If a foundation feels too heavy, a BB cream or tinted moisturiser is a good alternative. Many of these products are created with the inclusion of an SPF, protecting the skin from UV rays. This Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser comes in over ten shades and has SPF 20. It is a lightweight moisturiser that is suitable for all skin types, creating a natural look. Wear on its own as a makeup base or blend with a foundation of choice to add UV protection.

Label M protein spray 50ml, £4.20, lookfantastic.com

If you’re not a hat person, hair still needs protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Many forget that the hair can also be affected by strong UV rays, especially if your hair is coloured.

Add this spray to damp or dry hair and comb through to spread. The spray contains jasmine, vanilla and wheat to moisturise the hair. The product also acts as a heat protection spray so apply before styling to protect the hair. The spray can be bought in 50ml, perfect for carrying in your bag or taking on holiday.

Vaseline Aloe Vera tin, £1.95, superdrug.com

This may not be the most fitting product on the list but its uses cannot be denied. In addition to providing lips with long lasting hydration, the product acts as a great hay fever barrier. Take a cotton bud with a dab of Vaseline and rub round the edges of your nostrils. Vaseline will catch any particles in the air that irritate the nose. Carry the small tin in your bag for touch ups throughout the day. The benefit of this use is that it prevents you from having to continually rub your nose and removing face makeup as you do so.

Avène Thermal Water 50ml, £4.49, superdrug.com

This thermal water has a multitude of uses. Spray on the skin when it’s feeling irritated. Use as a cooler if you’re feeling hot on the commute. Spray over makeup midday for a freshen up. Available in a variety of sizes, purchase the small can as a travel-friendly product.
